Your Boss [Freelance Friday]
I was reading Seth Godin’s blog the other day and saw a post that really slapped me across the face. It was titled The world’s worst boss.
In the short but powerful article, he talks about how we are our own bosses. Not just for work, but we are in charge of our entire life.
The post went on to talk about how we work hard for the benefit of other people than we do for ourselves.
Does that make any sense? I think it’s very true though.
Why would we do that?
If you hate your job and want to go back to school to better yourself, what do we see as being more important than bettering our self? Work?.
As a freelancer, this may not seem to be exactly the case because we are our own bosses, right? Well, when was the last time you did something for you? Not because you felt you had to, but because you want to.
Sure you need to walk the dogs to put food on the table and keep the coffee pot full and hot. But seriously, when was the last time you did something to benefit your future?
Seth’s post was a real kick in the pants for me. I got the same feeling when I read Crush It! for the first time. Both of these are about taking action, nothing more.
