If you have read a few posts on this site, you know I loves me some Google. I use it for my sites, the soccer club I administer and am switching soon to an Android OS phone soon.
The reason I am an avid user of Google products is because they make things I need to do more simple. The more simple something is, the more I can get done without it feeling the opposition of complicated software.
Below I have a few add-ons and tips to make your Gmail inbox a dream instead of a nightmare.
One of the fundamentals of emails many forget, is keeping things organized. It is tough to get things in order once they have been neglected. Every email program has a way to file away your emails; some easier than others. Sure most email apps have a tagging and search option, but this not the ideal way to keep your files.
If you want any hope of clearing your inbox you will need to file things away. I will show you the basics of how to get your inbox to zero using folder, filters and some elbow grease. If the programs you use are not shown, there are similar options available with the majority of the applications.
Some of you may be experiencing problems with the data on your Blackberry today. The problem is affecting many carriers, but not all of the Blackberry users.
A work around until the problem is 100% fixed is to pull the battery and leave it out for about 30 seconds, then replace it.
This should get you by until the problem is fixed.
What are you doing while your Blackberry is down?
For anyone who has scheduled any kind of meeting with more than one person knows how much of a headache it can be. The problem only compounds when more people are involved. Part of the problem, is not everyone—even within the same company—uses the same digital calendar program. Or for that matter, some still use a paper calendar.
I have been collecting a few apps and add-ons to help make the process of coordinating a meeting, just a little easier. Some of the are add-ons for browsers, others for Gmail and some are standalone apps. All of them should help ease the burden when it comes time to schedule the next multi-person meeting.
Most people these days have a shortage of time. If you are a micro business owner, you may be spending a lot of time in your email inbox. Odds are pretty good you are answering questions about your products or service over and over and over. This is a huge time suck.
A while ago, Google released a Lab feature for Gmail which has tons of time-saving uses. This miracle add-on is called Canned Responses.
In the simplest terms, canned responses are a way to save and send a pre-written emails. Most people are familiar with automatic out of office replies, canned responses can be used in much the same way. Paired with Gmail’s filtering system and you have a really powerful time-saving tool.
To get you started, below are a couple short videos and 3 possible uses.
I have increasingly been sending and receiving more emails over the past couple months. Because of this, I see how poorly people are at composing a useful email. My aim with this post is to help you send a better email. This will make you look more organized and professional.
Do not think you need to do these steps for every email. However, if you get in the habit, it will become easier when you need to send an outstanding email. Believe me, once people see a great email from you, they will not hesitate to open anything you send them.
Writing an email is a lot like writing for the web. Most people have very short attention spans and a lot of information to sift through. If you can write a concise easy to scan email, odds are your email will get read and responded to instead of skipped over or “missed’ by the recipient.
Whether you are managing a calendar for someone else or have multiple Google accounts for yourself, the sharing function of Google Calendar is damn handy. While I don’t have a frequent need to share with others, I find on occasion I have to share a calendar with a client or coworker. Google Calendar makes sharing super easy to share with your other accounts too.
A little while ago, I wrote a post about using certain words and operators in your Google search. Not too many people know this can also be done in your Gmail search bar as well. even though it is a couple extra words to type, it is a big time saver when trying to pinpoint an email from a specific person or containing a certain file type.
Below I will go over some of the basics to get you going and send you off with a link to even more operators to use.
