I was thinking about it earlier today. There has been a big shift over the past couple years.

It used to be if you had a Blackberry you were somebody important. Now there are a lot of choices for those of you who conduct business while on the go.

Do you use free or paid apps?

freemiumDo you pay for something if it helps you save time or money?

The reason I ask is, I have been buying more mobile applications and services recently.  None of the subscriptions are extremely expensive and most of the applications are the price of a latte.

Since I deal with a lot of smart phones, I get the chance to talk to people about how they use their device.

Blackberry Data Outage 7-7-10

Some of you may be experiencing problems with the data on your Blackberry today. The problem is affecting many carriers, but not all of the Blackberry users.

A work around until the problem is 100%  fixed is to pull the battery and leave it out for about 30 seconds, then replace it.

This should get you by until the problem is fixed.

What are you doing while your Blackberry is down?

Blackberry Keyboard Shortcuts I Did Not Know About

I have been using a Blackberry for several years now, and one of the features I use on a daily basis is dialing a phone number from the home screen.

The other day when getting to know an application I purchased, I was asked to turn this feature off.  Let me tell you, there are a bunch of shortcuts I didn’t know about.

It has taken me a little getting used to going into the phone app to dial, but the ease of entering so many of the programs I use is worth it.

Syncing Google Calendar To Your Blackberry

For many, their calendar rules their life. If an event isn’t on their schedule, it didn’t really happen. One of the handiest parts of having both a Blackberry and a Google account, is being able to automatically sync them.

The 2-way sync is wireless and automatic. After the initial set-up, there isn’t much you need to do other than add in appointments. The Google Sync app for your Blackberry will sync at regular intervals.

This means you can add appointments on either your handheld or online. The reminders and pop-ups you set when inputting the event information will be displayed on the device as a pop-up notification. If you have a Gmail browser add-on for Firefox, you will see a pop-up displayed on your computer screen as well.

If you live and die by what’s on your calendar, then take a minute to read on.

How-to Backup Your Blackberry

By far one of the most devastating things that can happen is losing all of your data. Luckily Blackberry users have the option to back up every ounce of data stored on your device. It is a great idea to back it up monthly. Backing up your Blackberry more often, you will lose less information if disaster happens.

The most challenging part of backing it up is remembering to do it. One good way to remember to back up your device is to have the Desktop Manager software open when you start your computer.

Adding an Application to Your Blackberry

One of the common questions I get when showing people how to use their Blackberry, is how to find and download applications. Finding an application and downloading it is easier than you may think.

They are found with a simple Google search. Another other way is to use Blackberry Appworld. You can start the download here from your computer or go to http://blackberry.com/appworld/download using your Blackberry browser.
